By definition, to skim is to move quickly and lightly over. And I’m sorry Switzerland, but I was forced to. Fortunately, Paris is only 3 hours away so I’m praying I’ll stop by again soon. 😉
To switch up my blog posts, for Switzerland I’m going to pick a couple categories and choose the moment during my trip which fits best.
The Most Anticipated Experience:
For YEARS, Marti (my long time friend and host) has sent me snapchats of her backyard sunsets. KILLER ABSOLUTELY STUNNING SUNSETS. Now, not every sunset can be perfect, but I’d say we had a pretty great one. Unfortunately, the other nights of my stay the clouds covered the sunset so we only had one night to truly enjoy the sunset. I took some photos but Jascha’s camera was much nicer so he gave me the pictures he took. 🙂
The Typical Tourist Attraction:
Lion’s Monument in Lucerne. I just love this picture because I was unable to fully experience the coin toss at the Trevi Fountain (due to restoration construction). SO I DID IT HERE. Magical. Only word for it.
The Most Delicious Chocolate:
Personally, I’m rather partial to milk chocolate with nuts and berries. I ate this beaut while taking in the views during our ferry ride on Lake Lucerne. Plus, who doesn’t love the fact it’s called Tourist? #basic
The Spontaneous Side-Trip:
My last day just hours before my train left, Marti asked if I wanted to go to Germany. WELL OBVIOUSLY. Her town, Füllinsdorf, is near the French and German borders. Since I was headed to France, why not pop over to Germany? This was also my first time riding an electric bicycle. For those who don’t know (like me previous to this), an electric bike is just like any other bike EXCEPT there’s a wonderful button that makes the bike do all the work on the big hills. God bless the Europeans for their thoughtfulness.
The Highest Point:
2190 meters above sea-level at Mt. Stockhorn. My recent Facebook profile picture was taken at the top! Such a cool experience. ALSO, almost none one was there. But Marti told me that Interlaken, just a few mountains over is one of the top tourist hot-spots. Stockhorn is just one of those hidden gems. 😉
What Took My Breath Away:
The view from Mt. Rigi. This was a slightly spontaneous side trip during our day in Lucerne. It was not as high as Stockhorn, but this view is hard to beat.
When I felt Swiss:
Perhaps my favorite moment (save the best for last, right?). Marti and her family served me a typical Swiss meal called raclette. Since I failed to take a picture, because eating shouldn’t have to wait I will let this picture from Google Images give you an idea of this amazing dish.
3 cities, 2 mountains, 1 lake, and 10 train rides later, I promise to return to you, Switzerland. After all, isn’t that the promise I made when I tossed my coin? ‘Til we meet again.
