BACKGROUND:
A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to do my first true solo trip. I had a visa appointment at the French Consulate in San Francisco. I took an early flight and returned home late that night. Having never been to San Francisco, I was excited to explore this fabled city. I would only consider it a half day since my interview finished around 11AM. I was disappointed to skip the Golden Gate Bridge (due to time constraints), however I can recommend these other five places which I really enjoyed!
CHINATOWN
Exotic and fabulous beyond expectations. Head over to Waverly place (between Clay street and Washington street) where you can visit the Tien Hau Taoist Temple. The view from the temple balcony is hard to beat…
SAINTS PETER AND PAUL CHURCH
Impressive architecture and central location (across from Union Square) makes this church a go-to for your itinerary. I ate lunch in the park and stared in awe at this magnificent church. Take a few moments to go inside and appreciate the stained glass windows, detailed ceiling, and rich history.
LOMBARD STREET
A roll out of the most charming San Fran homes in existence. I turned east on Powell street toward Coit Tower. The views (despite forthcoming warning) are worth every step.
WARNING: This route takes you up a massive hill which may result in shin splints the following day.
SAN FRANCISCO HARBOR
The piers have tons of things to check out. Just wander around and find what perks your interests.
“PAINTED LADIES”
You may recognize this view from the American TV show “Full House.” Getting there by foot let me see a lot more of the city! This is one of the few pictures I have with me actually in the picture. As this was a solo trip, I didn’t have a buddy to take my picture at most locations and my selfies weren’t exactly flattering.
